The judges have replaced the traditional golden tickets with platinum tickets for the show’s 20th season, as platinum is the modern-day 20th-anniversary gift.
“We choose the top talent in each region and offer them this ticket, rather than our typical gold ticket, so they can attend Hollywood Week,” Katy explained to Parade.com.
Season 5 Platinum Tickets for American Idol
Several incredibly outstanding singers auditioned on night one of American Idol, and one in particular, Hunter Girl, was granted the season’s first platinum ticket. In five years, Luke Bryan handed his golden ticket to a country artist he described as his “favorite female country voice.” Hunter Girl was awarded the Nashville ticket.
Kennedy Anderson, a high school student from Crozet, Virginia, received the second platinum ticket. The platinum tickets for Los Angeles are given to Kennedy.
Jay Copeland, 23, of Salisbury, Md., was granted the third and final platinum ticket from the Austin auditions after belting out an outstanding rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m yours. We have been anticipating your arrival through that door. I’m overjoyed that you showed up.”
