Paramount's remarkable years at box office are showing no signs of slowing down, as The Top Gun: Maverick fell by a mere 9.9% to a $34 million total over an extended Fourth of July holiday weekend.

This brings the total domestic running total for the film up to $572m, expanding its lead on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as the year's most successful film.

The sequel to the original is expected to earn $26.8 million during 3 days of the weekend.

It is currently the fourth-highest sixth-weekend haul at the US box office, just behind Frozen ($28 million for 2013)

and The American Sniper (30 million dollars in the year 2015) as well as Avatar ($34 million back in 2009).

It's important to note the fact that American Sniper was given a platform release and was in fact being played out for only some weeks.

Maverick is also the top-grossing film of the year in the world, with over $1 billion on the line -the first film of Tom Cruise's more than four decades-long career to reach the mark.

In the midst of the pandemic, Cruise was determined to hold up a release for the movie even despite interest from at the very least a couple of the major streamers.

However, this $170 million movie was never intended to be a large-screen experience.

The movie has grossed more than $85 million in the world via IMAX and Paramount's patience been rewarded handsomely.
